Aus Health International provided technical expertise in psychosocial trauma for this mission.
The mission reviewed the progress of the Program for Psychosocial Recovery and Development in East Timor (PRADET) and Emergency Psychiatric Outreach Projects; and drafted a design for a three-year mental health program, to be funded by AusAID.
Specific activities included:
- Assessing the effectiveness of the training activities
- Reviewing the effectiveness of the Psychosocial Resource Centre
- Considering lessons learned by both Department of Health Services and PRADET during the emergency phase and identifying key sustainability issues
- Identification of psychosocial needs and strategies to address community needs.
- Providing technical guidance to ensure that the policy and planning components of the design were suitable for a post-conflict context.
