Welcome to Aus Health International's first quarterly newsletter for 2004:
PROJECTS WON
- AHI has won the ADB funded Second Health Sector Development Project in Mongolia. Mobilisation is expected in late March/early April.
- AHI has recently been awarded a period offer by NZAID for the provision of consultancy services in health.
- AHI has been shortlisted for the World Bank funded "Cost, pricing, quality comparative study of health care providers in Bangladesh"
- AHI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kingdom of Bahrain to provide health advisory services in a range of areas. The first technical advisory service assisted the Government of Bahrain in developing appropriate health services for the Grand Prix
HIGHLIGHTS FROM CURRENT PROJECTS
- The National Mental Health Project in East Timor is coming to the end of its first phase and we are under discussion with AusAID for the second phase.
- The commissioning phase for Al Ali Hospital in Doha is now complete and we are moving onto the planning phase in preparation for opening the hospital.
- AHI's contract to coordinate AusAID's health sector assistance to Nauru has been extended to June 2005. Please visit our website for details of positions coming up in Nauru, including a coordinator and nurse educator.
- The Nghe An Province Child Health Project in Vietnam, which we are implementing as a partner to FinnConsult, has now mobilised. Marita Hefler will attend inception workshops in April on behalf of AHI.
STUDY TOURS
Over the past few months, AHI has hosted study tours for ministerial delegations from Bangladesh, China, Mexico and Saudi Arabia, to look at a range of areas including health planning, management, financing, information systems; hospital management; women and children's health programs; nutrition programs; and oral health programs. In the next few months, more delegations are expected from Bangladesh to look at nutrition programs; and a large delegation of 22 officials from Denmark's Ministry of Health will be provided with a tour on Australian innovations in health.

BOARD CHANGES
The Honorable Dr Don Grimes, has resigned as Chair of AHI's Board and headed off to Bahrain on behalf of AHI, to take up the position of Chief Adviser to the Minister of Health. Current Acting Chair is Peter Vinson, who has been a member of the Board for many years.
STAFF CHANGES
- Christine Giles, Head of Commercial Business, has left us to pursue her own consultancy interests.
- Marita Hefler, Project Manager, has left us to relocate to Thailand, however she is continuing to undertake contract work on behalf of AHI.
- We are pleased to welcome Jackie Stephenson, who is in her second year of the ACHSE management training program and has chosen to do her placement with AHI. Jackie is already proving to be a valuable member of the team.
- AHI has recently hosted Karen Lucas, returned Australian Youth Ambassador, on an internship and she is now doing occasional casual work with us.
